FeRMI in a few words

Based in Toulouse, it was created in January 2021. FERMI is attached to the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), Université Paul Sabatier (UPS) and the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Toulouse (INSA). It brings together around 180 researchers and teacher-researchers, 90 ITA/BIATSS and 120 doctoral students, i.e. almost 400 people..

It replaces IRSAMC (Institut de recherche sur les systèmes atomiques et moléculaires complexes, FR2568) and FPMC (Fédération de physique de la matière condensée, FR2008). FERMI aims to strengthen research activities on the Toulouse site in the fields of theoretical physics and chemistry, atomic and molecular quantum systems, nanophysics and nanochemistry, solid-state physics, materials and nanomaterials and physics under extreme conditions (intense magnetic fields, very low temperatures, etc.).

The Federation brings together the following six research laboratories :

  • CEMES Centre d’élaboration de matériaux et d’études structurales, UPR 8011
  • LCAR Laboratoire collisions, agrégats, réactivité, UMR 5589,
  • LCPQ Laboratoire chimie et physique quantiques, UMR 5626,
  • LNCMI Laboratoire national des champs magnétiques intenses, UPR 3228
  • LPCNO Laboratoire de physique et de chimie des nano objets, UMR 5215,
  • LPT Laboratoire de physique théorique, UMR 5152
