Guest Editorial: Content-Based Multimedia Indexing and Retrieval
Résumé
How often have users failed to find what they wanted in online searches because the thesauruses they used failed to match words in the material that they needed? Thesauruses, in spite of their semantic description, do not allow queries based directly on the visual properties of images. They are dependent on the particular vocabulary used, and do not, generally, guarantee for unanticipated search in subsequent retrievals. Content-based multimedia indexing systems attempt to reach beyond the standard thesaurus approach. They support techniques that use the content of multimedia in indexing and retrieval.
