Customizing Functional Electrical Therapy Using a "Rehabilitation Problem-Solving Form": A Preliminary Study in India

Résumé

The primary purpose of this preliminary study is feasibility analysis of an assessment tool - 'Rehabilitation Problem-Solving Form,' which is based on the World Health Organization's (WHO) International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), to customize Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) therapy. FES facilitates ambulatory function after paralysis by electrically activating the muscles of the lower extremities. The secondary purpose was to study the acceptability of a home-based post-stroke FES-assisted gait therapy model in India that is monitored with an online 'Rehabilitation Problem-Solving Form' since lack of accessible rehabilitation facilities and high cost of rehabilitation at the well-equipped clinics are current challenges in India which usually lead to high-dropout of individuals from rehabilitation therapy following stroke.
