Renal Resistive Index in 55 Dogs with Degenerative Mitral Valve Disease

Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is decreased in
advanced, as compared to mild, degenerative
mitral valve disease (DMVD) in dogs.1 This decrease
in GFR is associated with azotemia, which increases in
prevalence with heart failure (HF) class (up to 71% in
New York Heart Association [NYHA] class IV).1 The
most frequent cause of azotemia is abnormally high
urea and not creatinine concentrations. (...)
