Abstract : Low carbon impact is a shared goal of all transportation industry. One way to match this expectation consists in the introduction of lightweight materials with high specific properties such as composites materials. A sandwich structure with a plywood as a core material combined with metallic or composite skins appear as good candidate at a very low cost. Some recent and old applications of wood in transportation will be recalled first and then the sandwich manufacturing issues will be be detailed. Some results on static and impact responses are also presented.
