Petrogenesis of LREE-rich pegmatitic granite dykes in the central Grenville Province by partial melting of Paleoproterozoic-Archean metasedimentary rocks: Evidence from zircon U-Pb-Hf-O isotope and trace element analyses

Résumé

The Allochthonous Belt of the central Grenville Province in Quebec (Canada) hosts LREE-rich pegmatitic granite dykes (PGDs) intrusive into orthogneisses and migmatitic paragneisses. Zircon crystals from a monazite-bearing PGD and two allanite-bearing PGDs of the Lac Okaopéo region were investigated. Concordia U-Pb ages of 1004.2 ± 2.1 Ma, 1001.9 ± 3.9 Ma and 1004.2 ± 2.3 Ma, respectively, indicate that emplacement of the dykes occurred during the early-Rigolet orogenic phase. Trace element contents (U, Yb, Y) of zircon grains, their subchondritic εHf(1003 Ma) values from −4.7 to −11.8, Hf model ages from 2.05 to 2.44 Ga, and predominant supra-mantle δ18OV-SMOW values (> 5.3‰) indicate that the dykes were formed by partial melting of Paleoproterozoic-Archean metasedimentary rocks equivalent to those exposed in the Parautochthonous Belt (Knob Lake Group paragneisses), and located beneath the thickened Allochthonous Belt. This implies that the Parautochthonous Belt is present beneath the Allochthonous Belt hosting the LREE-rich PGDs and that it was affected by horizontal ductile flow towards the north for at least 80 km where it is currently exhumed along the Grenville Front.
