Dans une telle situation, le Gauss-Newton classique n'est pas le seul à pouvoir atteindre la convergence. Plusieurs alternatives sont proposées, dont certaines basées sur la famille des algorithmes Gauss-Newton par composition. A très peu de frais et en utilisant les mêmes opérateurs (et les mêmes gradients), il est possible d'obtenir un algorithme tout aussi rapide mais avec une convergence garantie
