Feeding the herbivorous tortoises

Feeding is of crucial importance in the maintenance of a species, especially in the case of long life expectancy species as Chelonian. A mistake or an inadequacy of feeding supply with nutritional needs can lead to growth disorders or life-threatening disease predisposition. The only recommendations available to owners generally consist of a list of fruit and vegetables, selected on the basis of their calcium/phosphorus ratio. To develop a diet that meets herbivorous tortoises needs, it is necessary to take into account the characteristic of digestion and their adequate requirements in nutrients.
