Study on Space Charge Behavior in DC Model Cable under Thermal Gradient and Polarity Reversal

Résumé

Research on space charge related to HVDC cables is mostly achieved on small scale samples, being flat specimen or reduced size cables, for questions of cost, easiness and flexibility of tests. Resorting to measurements on model cables, there exist different ways of implementing tests using the pulsed electroacoustic (PEA) method. In this communication we turn back to the different possible arrangements and show that using a dedicated cable loop for applying the voltage pulse can be a suitable way. Some results are shown in presence of a thermal gradient.
