Quality of service evaluation in satellite systems

Résumé

The increasing demand of the new technologies requires the introduction of new architectures or protocols and the ground networks are profitable in the dense zones, but are too much expensive in the not covered zones or weakly populated, what takes us to opt for alternative solutions in these zones, namely networks satellite. For some years, Networks satellite show more and more important and try to find a place in the telecommunication world, and the need to acquire this kind of technology increases from day to day. With the satellite integration of the systems of the Internet world, it is necessary to make a QoS applicative evaluation. The architecture of QoS has to concern thus all the various network layers. This integration of the QoS architectures, the applications of the Internet and the arrival of new services require generally the real time notion (VoIP, Visio conference...etc.). To guarantee a best functioning for the final user, the preliminary measures and the evaluations are indispensable, in the sense to give the best for the user (Guarantee as much as possible an optimal QoS service). The control of the Quality of Service became necessary. It is important to note that until present days, we work a lot on the evaluation of the QoS architectures on testbed or on the evaluation on real link, but today, we can evaluate the first integrated real systems, like the architecture uses in the project OURSES. This paper presents a set of tools which allow evaluation of systems performance that we can use as well on testbed or on a real system.
