UV emission of DBD Excilamps pumped with a square-wave current generator

Résumé

The power of the UV emission produced by Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) exciplex lamps has shown to be controllable by means of the current which is injected by the supply into the bulb. A systematic analysis of the couplings between the current driven by the supply and the UV emission is proposed, according to two different investigation's directions:  1D axi symmetrical PDE model, together with an equivalent circuit modeling;  experimental approach: the bulbs are supplied with an especially designed power supply. The latter is a programmable square shape current source, which offers several degrees of freedom for the control of UV emission. The design of the power supply is presented and the obtained characteristics and performances of the system (for lamps filled with Xe-Cl and Kr-Cl gas mixtures) are discussed.
